Winters in the park are usually pretty mild. Most trills can be enjoyed year-round, but since some of the paths have limited sunlight conditions maybe icy so use extra caution. Another advantage you will have during the winter months is that visitors can drive to their favorite spots rather than being limited to the shuttles. The park’s shuttle service that provides transportation to the Zion Canyon Scenic Drive has ended for the season.  The park’s shuttle services are set to resume on April 1, 2012.

For visitors interested in spending the night in the park this winter, the Watchman Campground and Zion Lodge are open year-round. The Zion Canyon Visitor Center for information on park activities and trail conditions will remain open from 8 a.m to 5 p.m. daily. The Kolob Canyons Visitor Center is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily through December. Both visitors centers are closed on Dec. 25.

In 2010 the Ironman triathlon was brought to St. George Utah this weekend!! Needless to say last years success was the deal breaker to sealing the deal. Last years turn out was amazing! No only were there tons of people participating in the triathlon itself, but Southern Utah came out to help volunteer and show those visiting what the true “Dixie” (St. George) spirit is all about.

The Ironman offers its contestants a signature view of the St. George landscape. The swim is held at Sand Hollow Reservoir, and the bike and run courses also give spectacular views of the surrounding areas. In its first year, the race earned a reputation as one of the best venues and most supportive communities on the Ironman circuit (taken from re and post-race surveys from more than 1,300 athletes). When asked their opinion of the event, most athletes gave the Ford Ironman St. George the highest possible rating. Tells a lot about our community and our residents.

Our Hurricane Sands tour (which overlooks Sand Hollow) would offer the PERFECT view of the swimmers. If you are planning on coming down this weekend of May 7th, be prepared for lots of traffic delays due to the race.

From the desert sand dunes to the rock formations Southern Utah has a variety of scenery that changes within minutes of riding. 

Climb 1500 feet to breath taking views overlooking St. George, Pine Valley Mtn, the Zion plateaus, and the Arizona Strip. Indian Village is the destination where unique rock formations become cougars, Indian chiefs, aliens, and various exotic animals as your eyes and imagination roam the scenic red sandstone landscape.

The ride (approx 2 hours) starts out like any rollercoaster at your favorite amusement park. A nice steady ride on what seems to be a road. When your guide tells you to “Hold on tight!” be sure to grab onto something, for your journey up the rocks of Southern Utah is about to begin! You’ll find yourself leaving the desert and entering rock formations that seem fit for a scene out of a journey to Mars.
