Sky Mountain Golf Course

Golf is an epicenter here in Southern Utah life. With 12 different and totally unique golf course in the area then everyone should be able to find exactly what they are looking for. With every kind of course available from city courses to private golf courses the choices abound. Here are 4 of our favorite golf course picks for you.

The Ledges

This stunning 18-hole course spans over 7,200 yards and is perched 900 feet above Saint George Valley, keep in mind the ball will fly farther and faster as a result. The vastness in-and-of itself provides a beautiful backdrop for a put or even a drive. Views of Snow Canyon almost surround the entire course. Contrasting from the rusty colored rock, the bright green makes for quite pristine surroundings. At hole 15, you’ll switch out a club for a camera.

The Ledges offers a top-notch selection for any experience level with steep slopes, rises, lefts and rights. The front 9 is said to be a little easier but don’t let that fool you, the back 9 will test your skills. If that sounds a bit intimidating, conveniently visit their website and look for the course map. Be sure to take a look at the scorecard to see what par is expected at each hole.

Besides offering the full-out golfing experience, for those who dabble or don’t have interests in all 18 holes, they offer golf instruction and lessons. The instruction classes are done individually or in groups of up to 4 players and all the practice balls are included. Likewise, the playing lessons comprise of playing 9 holes and a golf cart for up to 3 players.

Location and Pricing

Due to its location away from downtown, it’s the perfect spot for a quiet day of golf. Conveniently placed alongside the green, are modern vacation rentals as well. Creating a neat stay-and-play atmosphere. After you’ve worked up an appetite, be sure to stop in at the Fish Rock Grille for delicious eats. The Ledges is located just under 10 miles north of downtown Saint George totaling about a 15-minute drive.

The rates fluctuate depending on the time of the year and the time of day. For example, during our especially coldest and hottest months, it is the cheapest. Sand Hollow Resort

 

Consistently ranked #1 in Utah, golf at Sand Hollow Resort is a necessary experience. The rolling courses drape nicely over sandstone bluffs. According to Golf Digest, “to step on the 11th tee is to step on the edge of the world,” tee off from the edge of a cliff. Speaking of new golfers, the Wee Course is exclusive in Southern Utah, allowing children and whole families take a swing at a 3-par score.

Location and Pricing

The Sand Hollow Resort Golf courses are located just west of Sand Hollow State Park and Reservoir. It is easily navigable by simply asking Google or taking Exit 16 from I-15 and following State Street and following signs for Sand Hollow State Park. The resort is just a hop, skip and a jump across the street from the state park gates.

Coral Canyon

The Coral Canyon Golf Course stretches across a whopping 7,029 yards of “color country” landscape. As a result, breathtaking scenery of Zion National Park, Pine Valley Mountain and Red Cliffs National Conservation Area wrap around the fairways and bunkers. These views are sure to give that hole-in-one feeling. Engaging all experience levels, the course has a series of color-coded tees that shoot from different distances. In the case that it’s more of a “bogey” less “birdie” day, Coral Canyon is said to have forgiving fairways. In keeping up with excellence, the course is “soft spike only” with requirements of collared shirts and strict no-denim policy.

An almost panoramic viewFor larger parties, they also offer a splendid Tournament Package perfect for a group of up to 144 players. They include the driving range and range balls, food services courtesy of the Coral Canyon Grille and even a bag drop service. Roam the lustrous green in a GPS enabled golf cart and compete in long drive contests to be the lucky winner of a tournament prize.

Location and Pricing

Follow Google, or if you’re coming from the freeway, take exit 16 for Hurricane and the green is in sight. Nestled far enough from the freeway, it is surprisingly quiet. Coral Canyon Resort is across the road providing a convenient stay-and-play atmosphere.

How much does it cost? From a golfer’s perspective, the price varies depending on the time of day, season and the day of the week. Book a tee time here or call (435) 688-1700.

Sky Mountain

The Sky Mountain Golf course is another beautiful turf here in Southern Utah. The city of Hurricane owns the course, keeping it luscious and green year-round. The length of the course is about 6,383 yards with 18 holes and a 72 par. If that wasn’t impressive enough, enveloping scenery of colorful Warner Valley and Zion National park are sure to please. Follow a cliff’s edge overlooking the Virgin River at the beginning and the end.

The course is owned by the City of Hurricane and the course rules seem a little bit more relaxed than Coral Canyon. Shirts with collars are preferred but not expected. Observe the 90-degree rule with your golf cart and all is well! There are a few more rules that can be found here.

Besides all 18 holes, they have golf lessons taught by P.G.A Golf Professionals. In addition to that, a full-service golf shop, custom club fittings and even rental clubs! If 9 or even 18 sounds like a lot, they have a practice green and a driving range. Groups of 16  or more are encouraged to book 3+ months in advance in order to secure a spot at this scenic course.

Located a few miles northwest of downtown State Street in Hurricane, the course is easy to find. Either Google Maps or another hole-in-one will drive you to the course, whichever comes first.
